UMNO To Set Up Political Negotiation Committee - Asyraf Wajdi
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (Bernama) -- UMNO will establish a special Negotiation Committee to determine the direction and strategy of the party’s political cooperation as it prepares for the 16th General Election, said UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
He said the formation of the committee would be decided by the party’s top leadership, taking into account the sentiments and resolutions debated during the 2026 UMNO General Assembly.
“Of course, the leadership will take into account the views expressed at this general assembly when deciding on the next steps,” he said at a press conference at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here today.
On political relations within the federal government, Asyraf Wajdi said UMNO’s position was to continue respecting and upholding the Agreement on the Formation of the Malaysian Unity Government.
He said the party’s priority remained focused on preserving the country’s political stability until the end of the government’s term.
“The reason is that we still adhere to the agreement on the formation of the Malaysian Unity Government. As long as the time for the election has not arrived, essentially, we will not resort to ‘any backdoor tactics’ or change the government.
“We are thinking about the political stability that we are committed to defending, and that is why I believe no major problems will arise. Most importantly, let the people decide and give their mandate when the time comes,” he said.
He added that the spirit of consensus among all component parties in the Unity Government must continue to be preserved through continued reference to the original agreement, for the good and well-being of the people.
