GPS Yet To Finalise Candidate List for Sarawak Polls - Abang Johari

PETALING JAYA, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has yet to decide on its list of candidates for the 13th Sarawak State Election, said its chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

The Sarawak Premier said the matter had not been finalised as the nomination and polling dates for the state election had yet to be set by the Election Commission (EC).

“We do not know when the nomination will be held. So, it (the list of candidates contesting in the 13th Sarawak State Election) has yet to be decided,” he told reporters briefly after officiating at the closing ceremony of the World Town Planning Day 2026 at the Petaling Jaya City Council Civic Hall here today.

Yesterday, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Sarawak Deputy Premier, said GPS had given Abang Johari full mandate to decide on the coalition’s candidates for the state election.

The EC will hold a special meeting tomorrow to discuss key dates and other matters related to the state election, following the dissolution of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on Oct 26 to pave the way for the polls.

GPS comprises four component parties, namely PBB, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
