Melaka Polls: Adly Urges PH Candidates To Focus On Issues, Not Provocation
MELAKA, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidates have been urged to avoid provocation during the 16th Melaka state election campaign and rely on fact-based arguments when expressing differences with their political opponents.
Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari said candidates should focus on engaging with voters, listening to their concerns and understanding the issues that matter to them.
“I do not deny that our candidates are not perfect. However, we will ensure that they do not provoke anyone, even when certain issues are raised.
“If there are differences of opinion, put forward arguments to support them,” said Adly, who is contesting the Bukit Katil state seat, at PH’s daily press conference at its main operations room in Bukit Baru here today.
Citing the use of the word “sakau” (colloquial term for embezzlement) during campaigning, he said the term could be seen as provocative, but the underlying issues, including accountability and transparency, deserved to be discussed as developments at the national level also affected the people of Melaka.
Adly also criticised PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang for likening the Confidence and Supply Agreement (CSA) to a “Dajjal approach”, invoking the Islamic end-times figure associated with deception.
“Does PAS want to continue defending politics of labelling? Melaka PH rejects the use of religious sentiments to frighten the people and maintains that brotherhood among Muslims, respect for all humanity and justice for everyone are the foundations of harmony in Malaysia.
“The people should therefore assess political agreements based on their content and arguments, not extreme religious labels,” he said.
On Wednesday, Abdul Hadi, in a social media post, described the CSA as a Dajjal approach in the end times, saying it turned political power from a trust to be upheld for all into a means of forcing oneself to remain in power.
On Oct 29, the MADANI Government signed a CSA with six Bersatu MPs led by its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, as well as seven other MPs, including Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.
Besides committing to support the passage of the Supply Bill 2027 (Budget 2027), the CSA also provides for support for the government's proposed institutional reform agenda.
Polling is on Nov 14, with early voting set for Nov 10.
