Sabah On Right Track To Achieve Target Of Four Million Visitors This Year - Hajiji

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- Sabah is on the right track to achieve its target of four million visitors this year, with about 2.6 million arrivals recorded as of August.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said that of the total, 1.1 million were international arrivals and 1.5 million were domestic visitors.

"With a stronger performance in the fourth quarter, I am confident the four-million target can still be achieved,” he said in a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Department today.

Hajiji said the state government remains committed to ensuring competitive, inclusive and sustainable tourism sector growth, with the Sabah Tourism Master Plan set to help determine a clear direction for the sector.

He added that the plan was also crucial for addressing challenges, including flight connectivity, environmental protection and expanding local community participation.

"To achieve this goal, close cooperation between the public and private sector is greatly needed. Sabah has extraordinary advantages, from islands to beaches, rainforest to mountains, wildlife, culture and cuisine.

"With proper planning, professional management and effective marketing, we can share these advantages with more visitors, while protecting the environment and respecting the interests of local communities,” he said.

Hajiji said tourism development should also benefit local communities through job openings, skills development and opportunities for local entrepreneurs, suppliers and service providers.

He added that the state government was also refining strategies to strengthen Sabah's attractiveness and competitiveness as a tourism destination in preparation for the Visit Sabah Year 2027.

"Its success depends on the commitment, cooperation and active participation of all parties, including the government, tourism industry players, private sector, local communities and the people of Sabah.

"We all have roles to play to achieve the Visit Sabah Year 2027 objectives. By cooperating, we can strengthen Sabah's position as a competitive, sustainable and world-class destination for domestic and international visitors,” he added.
