MA63 Technical Committee Orders Swift Resolution Of Outstanding Issues

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs), Datuk Mustapha Sakmud

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- The Technical Committee under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) today directed all ministries and agencies to prioritise resolving the remaining MA63 issues to expedite their implementation.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, who chaired the meeting, said committee members also reviewed the latest status of implementation and progress in resolving various MA63 matters in preparation for the MTPMA63 meeting to be chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim next month.

He said the committee also discussed several strategic agenda items, including the Borneonisation of the public service, efforts to bridge gaps in healthcare services, and measures to strengthen the education sector in Sabah and Sarawak.

"The continuous engagement through the working committees and the Technical Committee has proven that significant progress can be achieved through consensus, based on trust and mutual respect for the interests of the federal and state governments," he said in a statement today.

Mustapha said the committee also noted the increase in Sabah's Special Grant under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution to RM1.5 billion this year, as well as the successful transfer of Bintulu Port to the Sarawak government on July 21.

"These two achievements demonstrate that the implementation of MA63 under the MADANI Government is not only fulfilling previous commitments, but is also continuing to evolve dynamically in line with current needs and the aspirations of the people of Sabah and Sarawak," he said.
