N9 Polls: Family Of Four Shares Joy Casting Votes Together For First Time
SEREMBAN, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- A family of four today shared their excitement as they cast their ballots together for the first time in the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election.
Engineer D. Chandru, 49, brought his mother K. Rasamma, 72, and two children, C. Vishvar, 20, and C. Vikashni, 19, to vote together at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Kelpin here.
The single father said the state polls were a meaningful moment for his family as his two children became first-time voters, joining him and his mother in experiencing the democratic process.
“My son and daughter are voting for the first time. I am happy that our family can fulfil this responsibility together,” he told Bernama.
He described the experience as a memorable family occasion and expressed hope that the younger generation would continue to play a role in shaping the country’s future.
The family of four turned up to vote in the Mambau state constituency, which witnessed a three-cornered contest involving Lee Kai Yet of Pakatan Harapan (PH), N. Sarawanan of Bersatu and Erik Michael of Wawasan.
A total of 37.29 per cent, or 320,627 out of 859,760 registered voters, had cast their ballots as of 12 pm today.
The Election Commission (EC) recorded a 91.06 per cent early voting turnout on July 28, with 14,995 voters casting their ballots, exceeding the 90 per cent target set.
The EC has set a voter turnout target of between 72 and 75 per cent, with results expected to be announced as early as 10 pm and the full results expected before midnight.
