KOTA KINABALU, Oct 26 (Bernama) -- The international land boundary demarcation and measurement operation between Malaysia and Indonesia in the Outstanding Boundary Problem (OBP) area of Sungai Sinapad–Sungai Sesai is running smoothly through close cooperation between the technical teams of both countries, according to the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM) Sabah in a statement today.

The statement, shared on its Facebook page, stated that Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup made a field visit to Boundary Marker B2787, located in the Pensiangan and Nabawan districts, to observe firsthand the implementation of the survey team's work on the ground today.

It said the working visit provided the delegation with the opportunity to witness closely the operational challenges of boundary demarcation in the interior, encompassing rugged terrain, dense forest environments, and the high technical precision required to succeed in the national boundary demarcation mission.

"The field team also faced various technical challenges in the interior of Nabawan that required precise measurements and detailed scrutiny to ensure boundary point determination is carried out without any technical errors.

"Among the main activities carried out at the location were the removal of old boundary markers as part of the implementation of the Malaysia–Indonesia boundary agreement, which was officially finalised on February 18, 2025," the statement said today.

According to JUPEM Sabah, the implementation of this operation reflects Malaysia's ongoing commitment to ensuring that international boundary matters are resolved based on mutual agreement, technical data accuracy, and strong diplomatic ties between the two countries.

The field operation is led by the Sabah Topographic Mapping Division under JUPEM, in close cooperation with the Indonesian survey team, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM), various supporting agencies, and the local community.

JUPEM Sabah also expressed its highest appreciation to all team members serving deep in the interior to carry out the nation's mandate and defend the country's sovereignty.

"Behind every boundary line on the map lies precision, sacrifice, and a heavy responsibility in defending the nation's sovereignty," the statement read.
