Budget 2027: Maintain or Increase Sabah, Sarawak Development Allocations - Mustapha

BAU, Sept 21 (Bernama) -- The development allocations for Sabah and Sarawak should be raised, or at least maintained at their current levels, under Budget 2027, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

He said fair and equitable allocations for Sabah and Sarawak were necessary, given the significant need to upgrade basic infrastructure and public amenities in the two states.

“If we look at last year (Budget 2026), both states received the highest development allocations. So, on behalf of the people of Borneo, we hope these allocations will be maintained or increased.

“This is because there are still many dilapidated schools. Earlier, I visited several police stations and police beats. In Sematan, for example, there is still a wooden police beat that is 69 years old,” he told reporters after a working visit to the Serikin Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex project here today.

Under Budget 2026, Sabah and Sarawak received the highest development allocations, amounting to RM6.9 billion and RM6 billion, respectively.

Budget 2027 is scheduled to be tabled in Parliament on Oct 9.
