PPPS Reduces Dental Specialist Waiting Time, Improves Patient Access

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 6 (Bernama) -- The Sabah Dental Specialist Centre (PPPS) has reduced waiting times for specialist dental treatment by up to 50 per cent, improving the delivery of oral healthcare services in the state.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the improvement allowed patients to receive treatment sooner while reducing the time and travel costs required to access specialist care.

“Yesterday, I had the opportunity to officiate the opening of PPPS. This is the second dental specialist centre to be established after the Negeri Sembilan Dental Specialist Centre.

“This reflects the MADANI Government’s continued commitment to expanding access to specialist oral healthcare services for all Malaysians,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Dr Dzulkefly said PPPS was the first non-hospital-based dental specialist referral facility in East Malaysia, serving as a referral hub for residents in Sabah, northern Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.

The RM32.76 million facility is expected to benefit about 3.95 million people, further strengthening access to dental healthcare services while easing the burden on patients, he said.

To provide more comprehensive care, PPPS brings together four key specialties under one roof - restorative dentistry, periodontics, orthodontics and dental public health.

“The centre is equipped with 18 modern dental chairs and advanced technology, including a 3D printer that enables faster production of dentures.

“It also has OPG X-ray facilities to manage complex cases without adding pressure to public hospitals,” he said.
