RM3,000 Aid To Be Channelled To Each Household Affected By Kg Lok Buta Fire

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- The Sabah government will channel RM3,000 in aid to each Malaysian head of household (KIR) affected by a fire in Kampung Lok Buta, Numbak, here, which destroyed more than 200 homes early yesterday morning.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the amount comprised RM1,000 contributions each from the state government, the federal government and the Yayasan Kebajikan Sabah.

“Alhamdulillah, I was able to visit and meet the victims of the fire. I would like to announce RM3,000 in aid for each affected head of household to help ease their burden,” he told reporters after visiting the victims at the Likas Multipurpose Hall temporary relief centre (PPS) here today.

He said the state government would also assist efforts to rebuild the victims’ homes through coordination between the State Secretary’s Office and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).

He said the location for rebuilding the homes, whether at the original site or elsewhere, would be determined after taking into consideration the suitability of the area.

Hajiji said that on humanitarian grounds, each non-Malaysian KIR affected by the fire in the village would also receive RM1,000 in aid from the state government.

The government will also provide basic necessities, including food and household items, to the affected families.

The fire, which broke out at about 1.40 am yesterday, also claimed the lives of three children, including two siblings.

The victims were Nana Abdullah, four, her brother Mohd Asrul, six, and their eight-year-old cousin Nurfarahdilah Mohd Tajihah.
