MAINS Earmarks RM10.99 Mln For 2026 Zakat Prihatin Initiative
SEREMBAN, Oct 23 (Bernama) -- Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Council (MAINS) has allocated RM10.99 million for this year's Zakat Prihatin Initiative, which includes education and healthcare assistance for eligible Muslims in the state.
In a statement today, MAINS said the initiative comprises four main components: the Mawaddah initiative, assistance for Year One and Form One pupils entering school in 2027, general education assistance for students at local and overseas higher education institutions, and medical aid for patients with chronic and critical illnesses.
It said the early schooling assistance provides RM100 per eligible pupil, prioritising families with monthly household incomes between RM4,690 and RM9,979.
“The general higher education assistance provides RM500 to each eligible student enrolled at a higher education institution recognised by the Malaysian government, provided they have not previously received education zakat assistance from MAINS during their studies.
“Eligible patients with chronic and critical illnesses will receive RM500 each, with priority given to those from households earning RM4,689 or less a month and whose conditions have been confirmed by a medical officer,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Mawaddah initiative offers RM10,000 to each eligible employer, agency or institution, including government departments, private-sector organisations, schools and higher education institutions, that achieves a 90 per cent participation rate in zakat salary deductions and a 50 per cent rate for scheduled waqf deductions among Muslim employees.
According to MAINS, the Mawaddah initiative runs from Aug 1 to Oct 31 this year.
MAINS will accept online applications for school, higher education and medical assistance from Nov 2 to 23 through its ePrihatin Zakat system.
“The application link will be announced on MAINS' official portal and social media on Nov 2. All applications are subject to eligibility requirements, verification and approval by the relevant authorities,” the statement said.
It said the MAINS Zakat Prihatin initiative underscores its commitment to ensuring zakat funds are used responsibly and reach their intended recipients to improve the well-being of Muslims in Negeri Sembilan.
