Negeri Sembilan Gov't Will Not Gazette April 19 Proclamation - SUK
SEREMBAN, Sept 17 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan government will not take any action to gazette or enforce the April 19, 2026 proclamation regarding the position of the Yang Dipertuan Besar, the Negeri Sembilan State Secretary's (SUK) office said in a statement tonight.
It said the decision aligned with the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) ruling that the proclamation was invalid, rendering any gazettement unconstitutional.
It said the state government abided by the AGC's view that members of the Negeri Sembilan State Executive Council (MMKN) had no jurisdiction, authority, or power under the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959 to announce the proclamation.
"Furthermore, there is no legal basis for MMKN members to rely on the proclamation dated April 19, 2026 for their announcement," it said.
The SUK office was referring to statements made by Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim to the media today regarding instructions to gazette the proclamation as decided by the MMKN.
"In this regard, the state administration has referred the matter to the State Legal Adviser to ensure that any necessary action is carried out in accordance with current laws and the Laws of the Constitution of Negeri Sembilan 1959," the office added.
The AGC in a statement tonight said the proclamation dated April 19 regarding the position of Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, was invalid as it failed to comply with mandatory requirements under Article 10 of the state constitution.
It also clarified that the Menteri Besar and the MMKN did not have unilateral authority to depose or declare vacant the office of the Yang Dipertuan Besar.
Meanwhile, the Negeri Sembilan Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) reiterated that Tuanku Muhriz remained the legitimate Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and chairman of the DKU.
