Occasional Holiday Declared By Negeri Sembilan State Govt Not Mandatory For Private Sector -JTKSM
PUTRAJAYA, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- Private sector employers in Negeri Sembilan can choose whether or not to grant an Occasional Holiday (Cuti Peristiwa) to their respective employees tomorrow, as it is an optional public holiday.
The Labour Department of Peninsular Malaysia (JTKSM), in a statement today, clarified that the leave was not mandatory for private sector employees.
However, any employer in the state who chooses the Negeri Sembilan Occasional Holiday as a public holiday must provide a paid public holiday to employees tomorrow.
"Employers may, with the consent of the employees, substitute the holiday for another day as provided under Section 60D (1A) of the Employment Act 1955," according to the statement.
Earlier, the Negeri Sembilan State Government declared tomorrow (Aug 3) as an occasional holiday to appreciate the people of Negeri Sembilan and all parties who worked hard to ensure the success of the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN), which concluded yesterday.
JTKSM stated that the declaration of the occasional holiday was made in accordance with Subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951, which allows state authorities to declare any day as a public holiday for the respective state.
