N9 Polls: 859,151 Voters To Cast Ballots Tomorrow

TAMPIN, July 31 (Bernama) -- Voting for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election tomorrow will involve 859,760 registered voters, including 7,391 postal voters, to elect representatives for 36 State Legislative Assembly seats.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said 401 polling centres involving 1,668 channels will open simultaneously from 8 am to 6 pm.

"A total of 15,344 election officers have been assigned to ensure the voting process runs smoothly," he said after attending the Official Vote Counting Centre at Dewan Perdana Tampin here today.

Commenting on the expected timing of the election results, he said the EC was targeting preliminary results to be known as early as 10 pm tomorrow, while the full results are expected to come in before midnight.

In Tampin, which has three state assembly seats, namely Gemas, Gemencheh and Repah, a total of 77,725 registered voters will cast their ballots.

The Gemas state assembly seat witnessed a three-cornered contest involving incumbent Ridzuan Ahmad of WAWASAN, Siti Aishah Seman @ Othman representing Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Azman Abdullah from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

Meanwhile, the Gemencheh state seat witnessed a one-on-one contest between incumbent Suhaimizan Bizar of BN and Abd Latib A. Tambi representing PH.

For the Repah state assembly seat, the contest also witnessed a one-on-one contest between Koh Kim Swee of MCA and incumbent S. Veerapan from PH.

Meanwhile, a Bernama survey at the Official Vote Counting Centre at Dewan Perdana Tampin found that all final preparations for tomorrow's voting process were proceeding smoothly.
